Biography:
October 28th 1979: Born in Los Angeles, California.
Beyond’s officially registered name is „Theodor Gonzales“. His mother is of mixed origin, but most of her ancestors were Spanish, his father is American with undocumented European origins.
Shinigami eyes and existance as a human being
Beyond was born with the shingami eyes, for a reason more specific than a Shinigami just dropping them. While it is stated that shinigami have no possibility for sexual intercourse and breeding this way, there still is a growing shinigami population, causing them to not die out, even if some commit suicide and cease excisting.
Most shinigami don’t know about the way of their species’s recreation themselves. Only the highest of shingami know that once in a long time a new shinigami is born.
For this a high-ranking shinigami indeed gives the eyes of a shinigami to a human child. This is done to serve a specific purpose.
The knowledge of life and death usually prevents the children in question of building any close relations to other humans, seperating them. This way they won’t feel the need to influence earth much when they get reborn as shinigami after the end of their earthly existence.
And in case they still would feel the need to kill to save a human immediately after being born their Death Notes are only handed out to them after a specific period of time in which the shinigami lord grants them some lifetime.
Most shinigami tend to forget their human lifes very quickly, their brains are not designed to keep the memories for long.
Shinigami genders are the only remnants of their human life, as well as their looks which are chosen to match their personalities.
Beyond Birthday is what you could call a shinigami larva.
He’s the ‚son‘ of Armonia Jastin Beyondllemason in this sense, the second highest ranked shinigami. However, shinigami do not build anything like parental relationships.
Early childhood
Beyond’s family never was an intact and loving one. They live in a poor part of Los Angeles and his father rarely ever is at home. He’s a workaholic and even if he works for paying for his families life, he is rarely able to show it, mostly appearing cold and distance.
Beyond’s mother suffers of depression and is known to be unable to take having to care for a child and working as well. She does her best to raise Beyond well, but he’s not making things easy for her either.
Beyond is a distanced child, learning how to speak extremely early, but never usimg this ability much. In younger days he sometimes talks about letters and numbers like they were usual and only after some time he notices the reasons for other people’s strange reactions. He finds out that he’s the only one able to see this at age 2, shortly before he reaches the age of being able to be killed by a Death Note.
At this age his name is still changeable and Beyond decides for himself that ‚Beyond Birthday‘ fits him much better than his given name. He names himself after the fact that he had the special names beyond the day of his birth and maybe due to some influence of Armonia Jastin Beyondllemason, but this is unclear.
From then on Beyond only identifyed with his chosen name, not his given one, causing the name above his head to eventually be 'Beyond Birthday‘.
However, he does not tell this to his mother or anybody, keeping his name a secret as a sign of him being special.
He grows up into a distanced, cold and shockingly mature child. Other children do not want to play with him because he behaves odd in their eyes.
His mother desperately tries to somehow keep her family together, but fails and only thinks deeper into depression until she starts getting careless with raising Beyond.
Learning to read and write at an early age Beyond starts to wonder about the meaning of the numbers under the names he sees. He starts wondering if they are some kind of countdown and watches those close to zero carefully. While he does not immediately figure out the formula, he notices how people die and his own parents numbers went down as well.
He tells his mother that his father is going to down soon, which is the only time he got hit as a child. A few days later his father dies in an attack of criminals.
Beyond is 9 years old now and pretty sure of his lifeclock-idea. As his mother’s lifetime gets close to zero she’s practically the very last proof he needs. The day she dies in a train crash, after returning from visiting her husband’s parents, Beyond does not wait for her to return home and instead heads out into the city of Los Angeles.
